2. Die-Specific Comments |
This obverse appears to occur only with a group of large raised blotches on the Queen's neck. The blotches are doubtless caused by rust that occurred during unprotected storage and are the most dramatic example of die rust in the entire series. As large as they are, though, the blotches can sometimes be hard to see on worn coins and in that case it is more useful to note the small rust dots between the D & A of CANADA (which are in a more protected position). Other reference points for this die are the repunched GRATIA and CANADA, as well as the thick toe on REGINA.
