Haxby Catalog Numbers
(Indicating Specific Obverse - Reverse Die Combinations)
Each catalog number refers to a specific obverse-reverse die pair (listed in the column to the right of the catalog number). For the 1859 cents the portion to the left of the "-" is always PC59, meaning "Province of Canada 1859". The portion at the right of the "-" indicates the specific die pair. The conventions used in designating the die pair are explained under How To Use This Catalog.
Obverse dies I1, 1a and G4 are bridge dies, used with both 1859/8 and 1859 Narrow 9 reverse dies. Dies I1 and G4 are named according to Rob Turner's system (see Links menu for his books). Obverses 1 & 2-83 are known only with 1859 Narrow 9 reverses. The capital letter in each reverse die number is the Reverse Group (see Rev Group Sorting Aids under the ID My Coin menu). Lower case letters for either an obverse or reverse die indicates it was part of a sequence of dies associated with a single die of the opposite side.
